Ruckelshaus Fellowship

The Ruckelshaus Fellowship is a two-year, full-time paid position for recent college graduates. The current fellows will complete their Fellowship in June 2026, which will mark the end of the Fellowship program.

About the Fellowship

The Ruckelshaus Fellowship was established in 2011 to honor the legacy of Bill Ruckelshaus—our founding Board Chair—and his lived commitment to collaborative public policymaking. The Fellowship is a two-year, full-time paid position for recent college graduates.

Over the course of the Fellowship, dozens of young professionals have gained hands-on experience in multi-stakeholder collaboration and decision-making, with many continuing along this career path. In addition to working on highly complex projects, the Fellows have participated in mentorship and professional development activities.

After an impactful thirteen years, Meridian’s Ruckelshaus Fellowship program will be coming to a close in 2026. Our current cohort of Fellows will be the last ones through the program. (Please note that as of November 2024, we will no longer be accepting applications for the Fellowship.)

We will continue to honor the legacy of Bill Ruckelshaus by hiring individuals who champion civility, mutual respect, and collaborative decision-making to address the complex challenges facing our world. Through the Ruckelshaus Fellowship, I gained a deep understanding and respect for the intricacies of environmental challenges—particularly the people, politics, and motivations that drive decision-making. The Fellowship has undoubtedly been the most valuable experience of my professional career.
